Better leather

Leather can be a sustainable choice if sourced and used in the right way.
Our leather, including suede, is sourced to meet high ethical standards. We work with tanneries in Tuscany that are small traditional companies, most of the time family-owned for generations, selected among the ones that meet eco standards that are above the strict European and International regulations (like REACH, UNI EN ISO 14001:2015, Environmental management systems, Prop 65 California).

Leather is already a fully natural and biodegradable material which means no additional plastics floating in our oceans.

We will never use plastic linings or finishings, faux leather, microfibers or other types of synthetic materials in our bags.

We only use leather that is a by-product from the food industry (that otherwise would be thrown away), and we turn it into a valuable, long-lasting and luxurious piece.

vegetable tanned LEATHER

2/3 of our products are made using certified vegetable tanned ITALIAN leather

Vegetable tanning is an artisanal tradition that the Tuscan tanneries in Italy have handed down in families for centuries, mixing antique recipes and modern technology.

A traditional process based on the use of natural tannins, a substance that can be found in many different trees and vegetables.  These natural tannin extracts make vegetable-tanned leather unique and easily distinguishable.

No animal is killed for its skin

The raw hides are discarded by-products of the food industry producing meat for human consumption.

A vegetable-tanned leather object can be easily disposed of at the end of its life, thanks to its chemical-biological characteristics.

Today 22 tanneries pass the strict selection criteria required to have their leather Certified: the tanneries have made huge investments in depuration systems and waste recycling that make them work in full respect of people and the environment.

Vegetable-tanned leather does not contain any toxic substance such as azo-dyes, nickel, PCP or chrome VI.
